Embroidered vs Printed Personalisation: What’s the Difference?
Personalised dog beds have become increasingly popular – and it’s easy to see why. Adding your dog’s name makes their bed feel a little more special and creates something made just for them.
But not all personalisation is the same.
At first glance, an embroidered name and a printed or applied name may look similar in a product photograph. The real difference is in how the name is applied, how it feels and how well it lasts over time.
At PatioCushions, we use real machine embroidery for our personalised dog beds. Your pet’s name is stitched directly into the fabric with embroidery thread – it isn’t a sticker, transfer or printed design.
What is real embroidery?
Embroidery creates lettering using thousands of individual stitches sewn directly into the fabric.
This gives the name a beautiful, slightly raised texture that you can both see and feel. Look closely and you’ll see the individual threads and stitches that form each letter.
It takes more time and specialist equipment than applying a printed design or transfer, but the result is a much more substantial and premium finish.
Every personalised bed is embroidered especially for the pet it is being made for.
Embroidery vs printed or stick-on lettering
There are several ways to personalise a dog bed.
Some personalised beds use printed lettering, heat transfers, vinyl or other designs applied to the surface of the fabric. These methods can create an attractive result, but the personalisation remains primarily on the surface.
Embroidery is different.
Because the thread is stitched into the fabric itself, the name becomes part of the cover rather than simply sitting on top of it.
🧵 Real Embroidery
With embroidered personalisation you get:
- A premium, textured finish
- Individual stitches that can be seen up close
- Lettering sewn directly into the fabric
- No vinyl or sticker to peel away
- No printed surface to crack
- A beautiful finish designed for everyday use
- A more luxurious, traditional appearance
Why does this matter on a dog bed?
Dog beds aren’t decorative objects that simply sit untouched in a room.
They are slept on, scratched, climbed into, moved around and regularly cleaned. That makes durability particularly important.
Surface-applied personalisation can be exposed to friction every time your dog gets in and out of the bed. Depending on the method used, repeated use and washing can eventually affect its appearance.
With embroidery, there is no surface sticker or vinyl layer to lift at the edges or crack. The design is created from thread sewn directly through the fabric.
That makes embroidery particularly well suited to something designed to be used every day.
A premium detail you can actually see
There is also a noticeable difference in appearance.
Embroidery has depth and texture. Light catches the individual threads, giving the lettering a beautiful finish that changes subtly depending on the angle from which you look at it.
It’s a small detail, but one that can make a big difference to the finished dog bed.
We believe that if you’re choosing a personalised product for your pet, the personalisation itself should feel special too.
Made especially for your dog
Personalisation is about more than simply adding a name.
When we embroider Bella, Teddy, Milo, Luna – or whatever wonderful name belongs to your dog – we’re creating that particular bed for one particular pet.
That’s why we prefer embroidery.
It takes a little more work, but the finished result has the quality and attention to detail we want our personalised dog beds to have.
How to recognise genuine embroidery
If you’re comparing personalised dog beds online, take a close look at the product photographs.
With genuine embroidery, you should be able to see:
Individual threads and stitches forming the letters.
The lettering should also have a slightly raised, textured appearance rather than looking completely flat against the fabric.
Close-up photographs are particularly useful – real embroidery has a texture that’s difficult to mistake once you know what you’re looking for.
Is embroidered personalisation worth it?
For us, absolutely.
A dog bed is something your pet may use every single day, often for years. We think its personalised details should be made with the same care as the rest of the bed.
That’s why our personalised dog beds feature real embroidery rather than printed or stick-on lettering.
No stickers.
No vinyl names.
No printed imitation.
Just beautiful embroidery stitched directly into the fabric.
Real Embroidery. Real Quality. Made to Last.
Because your pet deserves something made especially for them. ❤️
